GRETNA, La. (AP) - A former high school teacher has pleaded not guilty to a charge that she failed to report a felony in connection with an alleged sexual relationship between a student and her colleague.

The Times-Picayune (https://bit.ly/1YzDn6e ) reports 25-year-old Rachel Respess entered her plea Tuesday before a judge in Gretna. Her attorney, Jeffery Smith, had said last week Respess would plead not guilty.

Police initially arrested Respess and 33-year-old Shelley Dufresne in September 2014 on accusations the two invited a student to an apartment for a three-way sexual encounter.

Jefferson prosecutors later filed formal charges and accused Dufresne of having sex with the student on two occasions. They did not accuse Respess of a sex crime but they did accuse her of failing to report a felony.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled Feb. 24.
