CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - An early-morning fire in Cranston has left one person injured and at least seven others without a home on Christmas.

Officials say the two-alarm fire broke out shortly after 1:30 a.m. in the multi-family home on Standish Avenue. WPRI-TV reported that several police officers who arrived before the fire department went inside and helped evacuate the residents.

One resident was hurt, possibly after jumping through a window to escape the flames and smoke.

The Red Cross is helping residents who were displaced by the fire.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation. It wasn’t immediately known if the building had smoke detectors.
