CLEVELAND (AP) - Authorities say a suspect in the rape of a 10-year-old girl has been returned to Ohio to face charges after leaving the country.

Juan Carlos Ayabaca Jara (EYE’-uh-bah-kuh HAR’-uh) was indicted in October on charges of rape, attempted rape, gross sexual imposition, kidnapping and disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile.

The indictment against Ayabaca Jara, of Parma Heights in suburban Cleveland, alleges the assaults began in the spring of 2011 and continued until March.

Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Prosecutor Tim McGinty says Ayabaca Jara, a native of Ecuador, fled the U.S. in late March and was arrested last week by authorities in Panama.

Court records don’t list an attorney for Ayabaca Jara to respond to the charges. If convicted he faces life in prison.
