TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Tucson say a woman is dead after she was hit by a suspected drunk driver while jaywalking.

Police spokeswoman Kimberly Bay says the pedestrian-vehicle collision happened Thursday around 11:30 p.m. on Broadway Boulevard near Kolb Road.

According to Bays, the 34-year-old woman was crossing the street away from the crosswalk as an approaching Honda CRV had a green traffic light signal.

The woman was hit and taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

She was later pronounced dead.

Bay says the driver, 31-year-old Joedaniel Gutierrez, was uninjured and stayed at the scene.

However, police arrested Gutierrez on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence - impaired to the slightest degree.

It was not known Friday if Gutierrez had an attorney.
