MUNGER, Mich. (AP) - Members of a rural Roman Catholic church that closed in 2014 returned for a Christmas Eve Mass - in a pole barn.

Tarps covered tools and machine parts, and the chairs didn’t resemble the pews at St. Norbert. But for more than 150 people, the Mass in Munger in Bay County was special.

The Rev. Joseph Schabel presided, preaching in front of a tool chest. Anne Lynch tells The Bay City Times (https://bit.ly/1m9zc07 ) that it was a memorable event for people who miss celebrating Christmas at their former church.

St. Norbert merged with two other churches to form St. Jude Thaddeus parish, 10 miles away in Essexville.
