BOSTON (AP) - Coast Guard officials in New England are reminding boaters and paddlers that area waters are still dangerously cold, despite the unseasonably warm weather.

The Coast Guard said this week that water temperature in Boston Harbor is currently 46 degrees Fahrenheit. By way of comparison, harbor waters averaged 36 degrees Fahrenheit during the coldest winter month last year.

The agency recommends boaters always wear a lifejacket, carry a VHF radio and file a float plan with someone who knows where you are going and when you plan to be back.

After reaching a record-setting 69 degrees in Boston on Thursday, the temperature rose to 61 on Friday, making it the highest Christmas Day reading in more than a century.
