NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Natchez Mayor Butch Brown is recovering in a Jackson hospital after suffering two strokes and is reportedly in good spirits.

The Natchez Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/1NEO7b6 ) Brown recently suffered two light strokes, one before his recent trip to Parish and one shortly after he returned last week. He is hospitalized at St. Dominic’s in Jackson where he is under observation.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis presided over a specially-called meeting of the Board of Alderman on Monday as mayor pro tem in Brown’s absence and briefly updated the mayor’s condition.

She says he’s ill, but it’s her understanding that he’s doing a whole lot better. She says he’s also “chomping at the bits” and is ready to get back to work.
