PORTERVILLE, Calif. (AP) - The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that killed a man in the Central California city of Porterville.

Porterville police Lt. Dominic Barteau tells KFSN-TV (https://abc30.tv/1mDzwEh ) that officers responded Thursday to a domestic disturbance call. An officer was interviewing the possible assault victim when the suspect came back to the house. He says the suspect began escalating the situation and the shooting occurred.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows the 23-year-old suspect was armed with a knife during the altercation.

The suspect was taken to a hospital where he died.

Police have not released the identity of the man.
