BARCELONA, Spain (AP) - Aritz Aduriz scored to help the Basque Country beat Catalonia 1-0 in a friendly between the Spanish regions on Saturday.

The Basques outplayed the hosts in the first half, when Catalonia goalkeeper Pau Lopez had to make one-handed saves to deny Iker Munian and Aduriz before the Athletic Bilbao striker broke through.

Aduriz was left unmarked to receive Asier Illarramendi’s pass and beat Lopez for what proved to be the winner just before halftime at Camp Nou Stadium.

Catalonia, which included Barcelona players Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique, went closest to equalizing right after the break when midfielder Joan Verdu hit the crossbar.

Spain’s regions cannot play competitive matches.
