DETROIT (AP) - A 33-year-old musician has been shot death during a carjacking on Detroit’s east side.

The Detroit Free Press and WDIV-TV report Saturday that Anthony Tolson was stopped near an intersection about 9:30 p.m. Thursday following a Christmas Eve service at a church.

Police say Tolson was ordered out of his Chevy Trailblazer before he was shot.

Tolson lived north of Detroit in Eastpointe and was heading to his mother’s home in Detroit. Tolson’s bass guitar and gifts for his three children were inside the SUV which was taken.

Former music teacher Chas Russell tells the newspaper that Tolson started out playing steel drums around age 8 at church.
