SANTEE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say gusty winds toppled a tree onto a father and his 5-year-old daughter at a Southern California playground.

The pine tree snapped near the base and came down shortly after 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Big Rock Park in Santee.

KNSD-TV (https://bit.ly/1NHs4R8 ) says witnesses told San Diego County sheriff’s deputies that the man pushed the child out of the way as the tree fell.

He was knocked down and the girl was scratched.

Neither had serious injuries.

Fire officials say winds of 20 to 25 mph apparently topped the pine.
