COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety is reminding motorists to slow down and move over for law enforcement, emergency workers and highway workers this holiday season.

State law requires motorists to slow down and move over when they are passing the scene of an emergency on a highway. They also are required to move over when possible when passing temporary work zones.

Moving over is safer, and it could save you money.

A conviction for violating the law is punishable by a fine of at least $300 and as much as $500.
