NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Police say a 50-year-old man has died after a fatal crash on I-664 in Newport News.

State Police spokeswoman Corinne Gellar said Michael A. Smith of Chesapeake died Thursday after the car he was driving was struck by another vehicle that was changing lanes. The crash caused Smith’s car to run off the side of the road and strike a barrier before overturning several times.

Smith died at the scene. Police say four passengers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the driver of the other car was 32-year-old Roger L. Yates of Chesapeake. They say he was not injured and has been charged with DUI refusal, DUI maiming and reckless driving.

A woman who answered the phone at a number listed for Yates declined to comment.
