CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa prison inmate has died in a hospice care unit.

The Iowa Department of Corrections says 65-year-old Dennis Duane Richards died Friday at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville.

A prison spokesman says Richards died of natural causes related to throat cancer.

Richards, of Burlington, was serving a 60-year sentence for second-degree murder and second-degree arson in the death of his ex-wife. Authorities say Richards strangled 46-year-old Cyd Richards before setting fire to her home in 2009.

Richards began serving his sentence on Jan. 19, 2010.
