FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say they have recovered a body believed to be a man who disappeared while paddleboarding in the Florida Panhandle.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michele Nicholson says a passerby spotted the body Sunday morning after it washed ashore behind a condominium on Okaloosa Island.

John Andrew Frye, 51, of Fort Walton Beach went missing while paddleboarding Thursday morning in the waters off the island. According to the sheriff’s office, the paddleboard washed ashore and a woman who had seen a man on it moments earlier called 911.

The body has been turned over to the medical examiner’s office.
