HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a dead body found last week inside a U-Haul truck at the Hayward BART station has been identified as a 40-year-old man whose last known address was in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Contra Costa Times reports (https://bayareane.ws/1mftwBB) Sgt. Paul Graves of the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau says Jason Colin last lived in Bay Point. He said a cause of death was being withheld because of the ongoing investigation.

The body was found on Christmas day along with a backpack with a ski mask and burglary tools in a U-Haul connected to the man suspected of shooting and wounding a San Francisco Bay Area transit officer.

Charles Goetting was also shot and wounded Friday when a second officer returned fire.

Officers had approached Goetting in a parking area at the Hayward station because they thought he was acting suspiciously.
