SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Sioux Falls Police are accusing a transient of driving a stolen sport utility vehicle and rifling at least 50 mailboxes.

Police spokesman Sam Clemens says 24-year-old Kyle Lynne Stalder is charged with possession of stolen property.

Authorities say the SUV was stolen from a Hartford home Christmas morning. Around 2:30 a.m. the following day, authorities received a report of an SUV driving across the lawns of a Sioux Falls neighborhood. The SUV matched the description of the one stolen in Hartford.

Clemens says Stalder lost control of the SUV and jumped out after an officer began to follow him. He was arrested at a friend’s home minutes later.

Clemens says tracks in the snow led police to at least 50 mailboxes that had items taken.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Stalder has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
