PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Phoenix Police Department motorcycle officer is hospitalized with serious injuries after being hurt in a single-vehicle accident that closed a major freeway during the beginning of the Monday morning commute.

Northbound Interstate 17 reopened shortly before 8 a.m. after being closed at Camelback Road for about five hours because of the accident.

State Department of Public Safety Trooper Tim Case says the cause of the accident that occurred at 2:30 a.m. remains under investigation. Case says the officer’s injuries aren’t life-threatening.
