LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a man is in serious condition after a shooting at a Lawrenceville storage facility by a man who told police he acted in self-defense.

A Gwinnett County Police Department statement says a 95-year-old woman and her son and daughter were at the Public Storage facility when an unknown man parked nearby and began pacing and staring at them.

Authorities said after a “verbal altercation,” the woman tried to calm the situation, and the man shoved her.

Her son, who is in his 60s, retrieved a gun and told the man not to assault his mother. Authorities said the man then came toward the son, who fired once and hit him in the upper torso.

Police do not plan to charge the son but still are reviewing video surveillance.
