CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - A 31-year-old man is jailed in Corpus Christi after a chase ended with police shooting out a tire on his car. Authorities then found a man in the trunk.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Nathan Brandley tells the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (https://bit.ly/1NJJYTj) troopers Sunday afternoon tried to stop the driver near San Diego, about 50 miles west of Corpus Christi.

He stopped briefly, when three people jumped from his car and ran off, then sped away, ignoring stop signs and traffic signals. He finally was stopped near Corpus Christi’s airport after police shot out a tire.

Authorities believe the man in the trunk and the three who ran off are in the country illegally. The unidentified driver is held on suspicion of evading arrest and smuggling.
