BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - The Fire Marshal’s Office in Mississippi is investigating the cause of a house fire in Brookhaven, where a 44-year-old man died.

Monday’s fire was reported shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday. The victim was identified as Jerry Sanders, who lived at the house.

Brookhaven Fire Department Capt. Eric Smith said Sanders’ body was sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab for an autopsy.

A witness told the Daily Leader of Brookhaven (https://bit.ly/1QVZ38H) that neighbors tried to rescue Sanders but the house was engulfed in flames.
