HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut State Police say troopers responded to nearly 170 crashes on highways across the state during the first winter storm of the season.

Police say spinouts and accidents snarled the Tuesday morning commute in some places. No major injuries were reported.

Reports received by the National Weather Service said up to 2 inches of snow fell in Connecticut before the storm turned to sleet, freezing rain and rain. Some parts of northern New England were expecting 8 to 12 inches of snow.

Flight tracking service Flightaware.com says there were five flight cancellations and 25 flight delays Tuesday at Bradley International Airport, north of Hartford.

No major problems with power outages or rail service were reported.
