RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Small businesses and nonprofit organizations in six southwest Virginia localities have about a month to seek federal assistance in recovering from severe storms last winter.

The U.S. Small Business Administration says the deadline to apply for low-interest disaster loans is Jan. 28.

The loans for damage caused by storms and flooding from Feb. 14 through March 8 are available in the city of Norton and Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott and Wise counties. Loans of up to $2 million are available at 4 percent for small businesses and 2.625 percent for private nonprofit organizations.
