VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a driver rushing along a Long Island highway ran off the road and got into a fatal crash.
New York State Police say Raquel Liberte lost control of her car while driving southbound on the Meadowbrook State Parkway near Uniondale and East Meadow around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. They say the 20-year-old Liberte was driving at “a high rate of speed.”
Police say the car veered onto the road shoulder and hit a tree, killing Liberte.
Her only passenger, 20-year-old Evelissa Ducatel, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Both women were from Valley Stream.
Police are investigating what caused the wreck.
