DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A District Court and Superior Court judge in Durham has been charged with driving while impaired.

WRAL-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1JdmvuX) David LaBarre was pulled over near his Durham home on Dec. 16. The arresting officer wrote LaBarre had slurred speech and glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet, according to court records.

The Durham County District Attorney’s Office has asked the state Attorney General’s Office to handle the case.

LaBarre served as a judge in Durham from the late 1970s until 2002. He continues to serve as an emergency judge for the state.

It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
