HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) - A southwest Ohio city says a memorial fund has been set up in support of the family of firefighter fatally injured while battling a house fire.

Hamilton city officials say the Firefighter Wolterman Memorial Fund at First Financial Bank is accepting donations.

Hamilton officials said 28-year-old Patrick Wolterman’s death Monday was the department’s first in the line of duty since 1971. Fire department officials say he was hired in April after years of experience with other local departments and was recently married.

Services are scheduled for Thursday, including a public memorial service and a procession.

Fire officials said crews responding to a 1:12 a.m. fire call found heavy smoke coming from three sides of the house. Wolterman fell through the floor into the basement soon after entering the home.
