SAYREVILLE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a lawyer falsely claimed that a detective with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office was driving his pickup truck when it was involved in a crash at nightclub.

Mark Kentos is charged with providing false reports to law enforcement and obstructing the administration of law and hindering his own apprehension. The 45-year-old Freehold resident was released on his own recognizance and declined comment on the matter.

The charges announced Tuesday stem from a Dec. 4 accident in the parking lot of a nightclub in Sayreville.

Authorities say Kentos told police the detective was driving the pickup and fled after the crash. But investigators determined that the detective was not the driver, was not at the scene of the crash and had not been at the nightclub.
