MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A 15-year-old Madison boy is in juvenile custody after authorities say he had a loaded gun in his backpack at school.

Madison police say the student attends an alternative high school program that is located at Lapham Elementary School. The program is on a floor that’s separate from younger students.

The gun was found on Thursday after a tip and turned over to Madison police. Police say the boy didn’t take the gun out of the backpack while he was at school and he didn’t threaten anyone.

He’s being held on a tentative charge of possessing a firearm in a school zone.
