CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Cabarrus County authorities have arrested a man they suspect in a shooting at an Interstate 85 rest stop that left a father of four paralyzed from the thighs down.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that they arrested 26-year-old Darren Tyron Manuel Tuesday night in Charlotte. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

On Saturday, 43-year-old Greg McKee and his family had stopped at a rest area near Dale Earnhardt Boulevard and Exit 60. As he washed his hands, Manuel and another suspect approached McKee and showed a gun.

As McKee ran from the restroom, he was shot in the back. Sheriff’s officials say McKee is now paralyzed from the thighs down.
