SANTA TERESA, N.M. (AP) - Dona Ana County authorities are searching for a woman who allegedly threatened a Santa Teresa couple at knifepoint and triggered a standoff with deputies before fleeing.

County sheriff’s officials say an arrest warrant has been issued for 35-year-old Kendra Shahan after Thursday’s incident.

They say she’s facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Several sheriff’s department units were dispatched to a home about 7 a.m.

The couple told deputies that a female relative knocked on their door at 4:30 a.m., demanding to be let in the home.

They say the woman was brandishing a knife and threatening to kill them.

The couple was able to escape and call police.

Authorities believed the woman was still inside the home. But it was determined hours later the house was empty.
