CHICAGO (AP) - An employee of Cook County Circuit Clerk Dorothy Brown’s office has pleaded not guilty to lying to a federal grand jury.

The Chicago Tribune reports (https://trib.in/1LRnQlH ) a magistrate judge set bail Thursday at $15,000 for Sivasubramani Rajaram.

The 48-year-old was accused of lying before a federal grand jury investigating potential crimes linked to purchasing jobs and promotions within Brown’s office.

The indictment was made public last month in what the U.S. attorney’s office described as an ongoing investigation of Brown’s office. Authorities allege Rajaram loaned money to a company run by Brown’s husband. Then weeks later, Rajaram was hired by the clerk’s office.

An assistant U.S. attorney requested Rajaram surrender his passport. But his attorney Amir Mohabbat asked for more lenient release conditions, noting Rajaram’s seriously ill father in India.
