HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - A Gurdon man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for kidnapping and killing a Gurdon woman whose body was found in the trunk of her car in North Carolina.

Federal prosecutors say 39-year-old Kevin Bolton was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Hot Springs.

Bolton pleaded guilty in June to kidnapping resulting in the death of 20-year-old Cassandra Nicole “Cassie” Carter in March 2013. Her body was found in the trunk of her car in Cherokee, North Carolina, after Cherokee Indian Police arrested Bolton - who was driving the car - following a traffic stop.

Bolton admitted he choked Carter and put her in the trunk of the car in Arkansas before driving to North Carolina where he was staying with friends until his arrest.
