LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (AP) - A man has been charged after police say the body of a woman was found in a closet in Little River several days after her death.

Lt. Raul Denis with Horry County police tells media outlets that 45-year-old Leon Edward Collier is charged with murder in the death of 29-year-old Christian Hope Phipps.

Police say officers responded to a home Tuesday after receiving a call about a man who was threatening to harm himself. Officers reported a foul odor coming from the house, and found Phipps’ decomposing body in a closet.

Deputy coroner Darris Fowler says Phipps’ cause of death is under investigation. The case is ruled a homicide.

Collier also faces two counts of unlawful neglect of a child by legal custodian. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
