CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago woman is being held in lieu of $1 million bond on child endangerment charges filed in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors say 18-year-old Jazmine Jones on Nov. 28 punched Elliana Claiborne several times for not eating her noodles.

Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Przekota said at a Wednesday bond hearing the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services took the toddler from Jones last year.

DCFS officials said they invested Elliana’s biological parents for abuse and neglect. However, they didn’t explain why Elliana was returned to Jones.

Prosecutors say the beating took place at the home of the mother of Jones’ boyfriend. They say after the beating, the child was put to bed. She was discovered unresponsive the next morning and later pronounced dead at St. Bernard Hospital.

It wasn’t immediately known if Jones has legal representation.
