NEW YORK (AP) - A man and a burglary suspect in Queens were accidentally wounded by an officer who shot two dogs that had turned on the officer as he got out of his patrol car.

It happened at 128th Street near Rockaway Boulevard in South Ozone Park at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say two men, one armed with a hammer and the other with a metal pipe, and two dogs were aggressively confronting the 24-year-old burglary suspect when officers arrived.

One of the men was wounded in the wrist. The burglary suspect, who was arrested on burglary and criminal mischief charges, was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg and a dog bite.

Police say the two dogs were also struck by gunfire and removed to Animal Care and Control. There conditions were unknown.
