RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The N.C. Highway Patrol says a woman was killed when she tried to drive her sport utility vehicle around the gates at a railroad crossing and was hit by a passenger train.

The patrol identified the victim in Thursday’s accident as 52-year-old Aliksa Mongkeya of Aberdeen.

Investigators said Mongkeya attempted to go around the railroad cross arms when the Amtrak train struck her vehicle. The patrol said all railroad warning signals were activated and operating at the time of the crash, which occurred in Moore County near the town of Pinebluff.

The patrol said the Amtrak train was carrying 82 passengers. No injuries were reported.

Passengers were loaded onto buses and carried to their final destination. The railroad was still closed Thursday afternoon as CSX officials inspected the tracks.
