RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Petersburg man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for robbing a Stony Creek bank.

The U.S. attorney’s office says 24-year-old Troy A. Clanton was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Richmond.

Clanton pleaded guilty in May to bank robbery and brandishing a gun in a crime of violence. According to court documents, Clanton and an accomplice robbed the Bank of Southside Virginia on Dec. 29. While making his getaway with $22,514, Clanton dropped several personal documents with his name and other personal information on the ground outside the bank. He was arrested after a police chase on Jan. 7.
