BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say a southern New Jersey man strangled his ex-girlfriend and suffocated her 3-month-old daughter before dumping their bodies in a wooded area.

Ricardo Santiago, of Millville, pleaded not guilty Thursday after he was arrested Tuesday night and charged with homicide.

NJ.com reports (https://bit.ly/1OACDHK) that Senior Trial Attorney Michael Ostrowski says that Neidy Ramirez was killed by blunt force trauma to the neck after she was strangled with a cord. Ostrowski says she was found buried under a pile of leaves in Fairfield Township.

He says the baby’s chest was crushed by a knee and she was then suffocated when Santiago allegedly put his hands over her mouth and nose.

Santiago is being held at the Cumberland County Courthouse on $2 million bail.
