RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) - A 41-year-old Riverton man is being treated in a Salt Lake City hospital after he was struck by a car and left in the cold.

The Ranger reports (https://bit.ly/1TzMfm5 ) that the man was found lying near Pure Gas Road on Monday night in hypothermic conditions. Temperatures at Riverton Regional Airport were recorded at about 6 degrees when he was found.

Responders say the man was lying outside for quite a while before he was found and taken by air ambulance to Salt Lake City.

He told police he was struck from behind by a vehicle.

Riverton Police Department Capt. Eric Murphy says doctors suspect the incident severed the victim’s spinal cord, leaving him likely paralyzed.

The incident remains under investigation.
