MARLIN, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas district has called off school until Monday due to lack of water following problems with a treatment plant and leaks.

The Marlin Independent School District canceled classes Thursday and Friday amid lingering water woes in the community of about 6,000.

Some homes and businesses in Marlin, 25 miles southeast of Waco, have been without running water since Thanksgiving Day. A boil water notice remains in effect as service slowly resumes.

Some repairs were completed Wednesday at Marlin’s water treatment plant.

City spokesman police Sgt. Wayne Cooley says scattered areas began getting water again Wednesday night. Cooley urged residents to conserve since water supplies remain limited. Many residents are using bottled water.

The school district this week trucked water to campuses for flushing toilets.
