ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say two dogs have been shot after attacking three men in Anderson.

Police Chief Jim Stewart tells local media outlets that it all happened just before 7 p.m. Tuesday. Stewart says that, when officers arrived, they found three men on top of a truck.

The chief says the dogs then charged the officers, who shot and killed them.

Stewart says it’s not clear what caused the dogs to attack the men, or exactly what kind of breed they were. Stewart says one man suffered extensive injuries and may need surgery, and the other two sustained minor injuries.

Police are looking for the owner of the dogs. Necropsies are being performed to determine if the animals had rabies.
