ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque police are expressing frustration regarding dozens of thefts of automobiles stolen left unattended to warm up.

A Police Department spokesman, Officer Simon Drobik, says there have been 69 warm-up thefts in December alone and he calls the thefts “completely preventable crimes.”

Drobik says insurance companies may deny claims from vehicle owners because they facilitated the crime by leaving the key in the ignition while the vehicle was running.

He says the Police Department is asking for the community’s help to reduce the thefts.
