Authorities: Off-duty Port Authority officer dies in crash

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police officer has died following a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Police tell NJ.com (https://bit.ly/1ZASTvE ) that Eamonn Mautone lost control of his Subaru around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday and crashed into the guardrail. Investigators say they believe rainy conditions overnight played a part in the single-car crash.

Mautone was sworn into the department in August 2014 and had been assigned to the World Trade Center command.
