PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed Russell Olson of Madison to the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission.

Daugaard says Olson is an avid outdoorsman who is committed to conservation, and he appreciates Olson’s willingness to serve in the important role.

Olson served in the state House of Representatives from 2007-09 and the state Senate from 2009-13. Also He served for three years as senate majority leader. Olson is currently chief executive officer of Heartland Consumers Power District, based in Madison.

He says he looks forward to making sure that the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts is able to enjoy the outdoors as he has.

Olson replaces Duane Sather of Sioux Falls, who is retiring after four years on the commission. Olson’s term ends January 2020.
