PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona city of Prescott plans to welcome the new year by dropping a giant illuminated cowboy boot for the fifth year.

The Daily Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1QZhFUP ) that the boot drop will be at the city’s Historic Whiskey Row. A 6-foot boot will be slowly lowered from a 40-foot flagpole on top of the historic Palace Building.

The event begins at 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will include a DJ, local food vendors and prize giveaways.

The boot will drop twice: Once at 10 p.m. and once at midnight. During the second drop, fireworks will ignite from the top of the parking garage behind Whiskey Row.

The earlier drop coincides with the traditional ball drop in New York City’s Times Square.
