OREM, Utah (AP) - Prosecutors say 27-year-old Brittany Engstrom, who was found shot to death in her Orem apartment, was expected to testify against the man suspected of killing her.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1Ol7yaI ) that Engstrom’s boyfriend, 37-year-old David Driscoll, shot himself after a two-hour standoff with police Monday. Orem Police Lt. Craig Martinez said Driscoll was a “person of interest” in Engstrom’s death.

Driscoll was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing on felony child sex abuse charges. Utah County prosecutor Ryan McBride says he planned to call Engstrom as a witness in the case if it had gone to trial.

McBride says Engstrom didn’t witness the alleged abuse but “was aware of the circumstances surrounding the case.”

A search of Utah court records shows Driscoll had no other criminal history beyond traffic tickets.
