SEATTLE (AP) - Federal officials are investigating what caused an Alaska Airlines flight to mistakenly land on a taxiway instead of a runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The Seattle Times reports (https://goo.gl/pJccBp ) the Federal Aviation Administration says Flight 27 from Chicago had been cleared to land Dec. 19 on the airport’s center runway or another runway to the right. Instead, the plane landed in between the two on a taxiway mainly used by aircraft as they taxi to and from the terminal.

Port of Seattle airport spokesman Perry Cooper says the plane landed safely and then headed to the gate. No injuries were reported.

Cooper says the incident marks the fourth time in the airport’s history that a plane has accidentally landed on a taxiway. Other incidents occurred in 2000, 2003 and 2004.
