LE MARS, Iowa (AP) - Officials say the Plymouth County Historical Museum in Le Mars has regained its federal nonprofit status.

The Internal Revenue Service notified the museum about the change earlier this month. The reinstatement means people and groups can make tax-deductible donations to the museum, as allowed by IRS rules.

Museum administrator Judy Bowman says the museum wants “to let our donors know everything is OK now.”

The nonprofit status was revoked in September 2014. The reinstatement is retroactive to Sept. 15, 2014. The IRS says the revocation occurred because the museum didn’t file a Form 990 series tax return or notice for three consecutive years.

Museum business manager Mary Holub told the Le Mars Daily Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1mrKmg4 ) that the museum has changed procedures “to make sure this does not occur again.”
