AUBURN, Maine (AP) - The Lost Valley ski area in Auburn has opened for the winter season of 2015-2016 for the first time under new ownership.

Lost Valley was purchased by Scott Shanaman on Nov. 1 and he has made upgrades to the community resort that first opened in 1961. Beyond being spruced up is greater snowmaking ability. The Sun Journal says there are now 51 snow guns instead of 16.

The fate of Lost Valley was in jeopardy after its previous owners grew concerned that they might have to close the mountain because of outstanding debts.

Shanaman and his wife signed a purchase-and-sale agreement eight weeks ago, but the weather delayed the opening day several times.
