SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A sinkhole in San Francisco has stopped a portion of a popular street car line.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://sfg.ly/1Ui3doQ ) Thursday that the J-Church line is blocked at 24th and Church streets in both directions because of the sinkhole.

The sinkhole is roughly two feet wide and four feet long, with a cavernous space running at least 10 feet in all directions underneath the crumbling pavement, the newspaper reports. A pipe may have burst under the road.

Shuttles have been sent to help stranded passengers on the line from 22nd and Church streets to Balboa Park. Officials hope to have the sinkhole fixed by the end of the Thursday.

The N-Judah Muni line also may be impacted because of the sinkhole.
